Raised Timber Beds
In response to the increasing national demand for “Grow-your-own” vegetables, H J Webb & Son of Oxfordshire now offer a well researched range of timber for raised beds of varying width, length and finish. A raised bed provides an efficient and visually appealing way of growing vegetables, herbs or flowers.
H J Webb & Son’s 45 years of experience in the timber industry ensures the correct timber is used for the raised beds and that it is bought from sustainable sources.
The selection includes either new sleepers with a rustic finish, semi-planed timber of various thicknesses through to rough sawn timbers. These timbers are pressure treated with a harmless preservative. Oak is also popular for its durability & style.
Many gardeners who previously installed planters now use raised beds due to the wide product range we now offer.
Please look at our price list under the first section: 'Treated boards, battens and structural carcassing timbers'. This clearly shows you all the lengths and thicknesses we offer and stock. If none of these suit then tell us, we will cut lengths to suit your needs and then simply quote you for the bolts and corner braces to suit your cutting plan.
ADVANTAGES OF RAISED BEDS
They are the quickest and most versatile way to grow vegetables because they:
- Enable you to use the right type of soil at the outset, regardless of the garden’s natural soil type. (We supply compost & top soil)
- Increase soil depth which improves drainage and soil structure.
- Warm up quicker in spring – get the first crops in sooner.
- Require less bending – easier to plant and weed – ideal for disabled, wheelchair users and senior citizens.
- Can be placed on any ground type: flowerbed or lawn (we supply a weed suppressing membrane).
- Save time - no heavy duty digging necessary.
- Enable easier rotation planning which builds fertility and breaks down the life cycle of pests and diseases.
- Avoid any danger of muddy boots compacting the soil when picking your crop.
- Are aesthetically pleasing – raised beds add structure and form to a garden.
